About the event
A Saint Oliver Jubilee Walk will take place from Doctor's Quarters near Lislea to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Lislea on Saturday 22nd February, Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter. The event will commemorate a famous walk undertaken by Saint Oliver in south Armagh on that same feast in 1674. During a period of persecution, which necessitated Saint Oliver moving to a more secure location, he wrote: 'Snow mixed with big hailstones was falling, a cutting wind was blowing into our faces... finally after frequent danger of being suffocated in the snowdrifts, we arrived at the house of a poor gentleman.'
Commencing at 2:30pm at the house where Saint Oliver resided at Doctor's Quarters (1 mile south of Lislea on the Crossmaglen Road (Map ref. 54.144553, - 6.465519) and following a short talk and blessing of the nearby Saint Oliver's Well, the Jubilee Pilgrims will proceed 2.5 miles…
